Joan Kirchner, Soprano, appears as a soloist regionally and on Cape from Provincetown to Woods Hole presenting a variety of styles from Renaissance works to cabarets of the Great American Songbook. Reviews have noted her “stunningly beautiful voice,” “inspired interpretation of late Renaissance and early Baroque music,” and proclaimed “a singer possessed of sensitive musical intelligence and charm of presentation.” She has a strong interest in early music, working with leading names such as Ton Koopman, Nicolas Harnoncourt, and Gustav Leonhardt. She has been a chorus member of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir in Toronto and Handel & Haydn Society in Boston as well as several Renaissance groups. She earned a master’s degree in Church Music and Organ Performance from Indiana University and has studied voice with Carol Forte and Cornelius Reid. Active in several churches on Cape, Joan serves as Minister of Music at Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans. She teaches at her home studio in Brewster, specializing in the concerns of the mature voice. Upcoming performances and information can be found at artistsandmusicians.org/joankirchner.
Andrew Boyacigiller, tenor is currently a Junior studying Computer Science and Music at Brown University. He has been immersed in music since being asked to join a choir at the age of three, going on to perform in the Conspirare Children’s Choir and the Georgia Boys’ Choir. Andrew has been singing opera for almost 7 years, starting in high school on recommendation from his piano teacher. He went on to win the GMTA senior voice awards for 4 years in a row, and was an alternate for the Music Teachers’ National Association competition in 2022.
Currently, he is studying vocal performance under Tyler Cessario and performing in the Brown University Chorus, including soloing in their most recent Mallorca tour. Originally from just outside of Annapolis MD, Andrew has moved all over the U.S. from Texas to Georgia, and now Rhode Island.
Outside of academic work, Andrew enjoys composing choral music, coding for art using p5.js, and technical drawings of things that will never exist. He is currently embarking on a study of the songs of Lili Boulonger, and working through the Dichterliebe song cycle. In his free time, he enjoys sailing with his dad, reading or watching old-school science fiction, and attempting to cook passable meals with an increasingly dwindling number of ingredients.
Baritone Nathan Halbur is a singer and composer based in Boston. His eclectic career has led him to appear with Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding in the world premiere of Wayne Shorter’s semi-improvised opera …(IPHIGENIA); to provide the speaking voice of Dr. Seuss’s Grinch for the Boston Pops; to be a soloist in the Carnegie Hall world premiere of Heidi Breyer’s AMOR AETERNUS: A REQUIEM FOR THE COMMON MAN; to give many solo performances of music by J.S. Bach with Emmanuel Music; to tour and record with ensembles including the Handel and Haydn Society, Skylark, Ensemble Altera, and Boston Baroque; to embody an Infernal Spirit as a Pegasus Rising Young Artist in Monteverdi’s L'ORFEO; and to be a featured soloist in a fully staged Fauré Requiem with Boston Choral Ensemble.
He has led pioneering work in the realm of choral improvisation, directing the live program PHOTOPLAY at The Brattle Theatre, and producing Nightingale Vocal Ensemble’s album COMPOSITION SPED UP (described variously as “transcendent” and “a unique statement that delights the ears, even while occasionally boggling the mind”). His compositions and arrangements have been performed by numerous ensembles in settings such as Boston's Charles Hayden Planetarium, the Sparks & Wiry Cries GRAND songSLAM, and the Otter Creek Music Festival. His band DREAMGLOW explores the intersection of classical and pop music, as well as lo-fi, vocal harmony, and improvisation. He also enjoys playing percussion instruments, engraving musical notation, graphic design, and rollerskating.
